Matt Brown
Houston Market President and Senior Vice President of Integration and Transformation Officer for Operations
Matt is a seasoned healthcare executive leading the growth of CommonSpirit Health's Houston Market and enterprise-wide operations alignment. He oversees strategic, clinical, and operational transformation, ensuring efficient execution of strategic priorities. Previously, he was Managing Director at Navigant Consulting, aiding health systems in quality improvement and optimization. He also held senior roles at FTI Consulting, University of Tennessee Medical Center, and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Matt holds a Master’s in Health Services Administration from the University of Kansas and has served in quality improvement roles.
John Petersdorf
System Senior Vice President of Operational Finance
Mr. Petersdorf is responsible for Operational Finance, Operational Effectiveness, Business Intelligence and Enterprise Analytics, as well as other strategies to improve the cost and operating performance for the enterprise. Prior to assuming this role, he was the Senior Vice President of Operational Effectiveness for Dignity Health for twenty years, and had previously been the Vice President of Finance in the corporate office and also served for a decade as the CFO for Dominican Santa Cruz Hospital. Mr. Petersdorf has an MBA from the Wharton School in Philadelphia and a BA in Economics and Political Science from Yale College in New Haven. He and his family reside in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Julie Sprengel
President California Region
Julie brings more than 20 years of valuable, results-driven executive leadership to 45,000 dedicated employees and 10,000 physicians, encompassing 29 acute-care hospitals, and more than 125 ambulatory care sites, including physician clinics, urgent care centers, surgery centers, imaging centers, post-acute and home health agencies. Julie has successfully led innovative and strategic planning processes focused on workforce recovery, enhancing quality and safety, the patient experience, employee engagement, and the implementation of sustainable growth initiatives.
Meredith Hestand
Chief Nursing Officer, Arizona Region
Meredith Hestand is the VP & Chief Nursing Officer for the CommonSpirit Health Arizona Market. Meredith began her professional nursing career in early 1999 and has worked for CommonSpirit Health since 2004. Meredith held progressive nursing leadership roles across the Arizona Market, including Chief Nursing Officer for Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, before moving into the Market CNO role. Meredith has master’s degrees in nursing and business administration; she is a board certified nurse executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and holds a graduate certificate in clinical ethics from the Alden March Bioethics Institute. Meredith is married to her husband, Brandon, and they have two children, Ravyn and Carter. In her free time, Meredith enjoys relaxing with her family and playing the piano, her main hobby since she was six years old.
Terika Richardson, MPH, FACHE
Chief Operating Officer
Since November 2023, Terika has served as CommonSpirit's Chief Operating Officer and provides both strategic and operations-related leadership, ensuring optimal operating effectiveness for the organization and its operating regions. She drives opportunities to innovate the system to develop a retail-driven ambulatory care strategy and other emerging business and care models. Terika also leads the organization's efforts to achieve growth targets related to revenue and market share, identifies opportunities for growth in CommonSpirit's operating regions, supports regional executives and local leaders in pursuit of their goals and objectives.
Dr. Thomas McGinn, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. McGinn brings more than 30 years of progressive senior executive experience in the health care industry. As CommonSpirit’s EVP for Physician Enterprise, Dr. McGinn oversaw all physician enterprise employment models with accountability for advancing clinical integration and population health management, including developing strategies that facilitate physician alignment and provide fully integrated, high quality, and cost-effective health outcomes. Dr. McGinn is nationally recognized for his research and teaching in the areas of quality, AI, implementation science, and health equity and is widely published with a long track record of federal research funding. In addition to his role at CommonSpirit, he is a Professor of Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine. Previously he was deputy Chief Physician as well as professor and chair of medicine at Northwell Health.
Richard Roth
Chief Strategic Innovation Officer
Richard is the Chief Strategic Innovation Officer for CommonSpirit Health and leads innovation efforts, which seek to create and test novel services, programs, partnerships, and/or technologies - from within and outside of healthcare that challenge the status quo and have the potential to reduce the cost of care, improve quality, and/or increase access to services. Working in concert with CommonSpirit Health employees and physicians, Mr. Roth works to anticipate emerging trends and technologies with the goal of incubating, studying, and scaling efforts to improve care.
